Anniversary Quilt

Remember when I made all those matching tshirts for my family's trip to Disney to celebrate my sister and her husband's 25th wedding anniversary? Well, for Christmas, my sister requested I turn those tshirts into a memory quilt for her and her husband.

Her favorite combo of colors are purple and black, so I used those as the main filler colors and for the backing and binding. She loves this full-sized quilt and it now adorns the bed in her guest bedroom.

Graduation Quilt

Tis graduation season!

I just finished one graduation quilt and have started working on another.

When I sent the picture of the finished quilt to the grad, she responded: "THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. It brings tears to my eyes seeing it and I cant wait to finally cuddle with it. What a special thing I will have for the rest of my life and I cannot thank you enough for all the time and effort you put into making it!"

This is why I love doing this particular craft so much. It really is a meaningful project that I do believe people will keep and cherish for their entire lives.

Since I often get asked about price, I'll start listing the prices of the quilts. This is a finished size of 76 x72 and so it's finished cost is $370.

UPDATE - Here is a picture with the new grad and her quilt:

Rock Tshirt Quilt

This post is almost a year late!

Last Christmas, as a surprise present for my husband, I took a bunch of his old concert t-shirts and made a quilt for him. I just realized that I never posted a picture of it!

These aren't nearly all of his concert tees, but these are some of the ones I knew he wouldn't divorce me over cutting up. :)

Treat yo' self

I'm always making things for other people. But this one was just for me...

I graduated 12 years ago this spring...and I've been wanting a XO alumni sweatershirt ever since.  I finally got around to making one.

I scored on a super soft Hanes sweatshirt on sale for about $5. What a lovely way to dress it up. :)

Update: And because I'm not totally selfish. Right after I finished this, I made this for my "sister"'s daughter who turns 5 next month.

Oven Mitts Take 3

I've had this pig oven mitt for forever. It has seen better days. So I decided to cut it apart and use it as a template for making a new dog oven mitt.

First, cut apart the old mitt on the seams.

Then I used the old mitt to applique together the top, bottom, and mouth of the new mitt.

Voila! A dog oven mitt. Complete with "I Woof You" instead of I love you message for Grandma.

Embroider name and year.

Oven Mitts take 2

My Mother-In-Law collects chickens. Because of this, my sons have sometimes called her "Grandma Chicken".

So I thought we'd honor that when making her Cheesy Christmas Present.

Up-Cycled Sweater Dress version 2.0

Okay, I forgot to take a photo of the before.  But this was a big bulky sweater with a HUGE turtleneck.  I was able to cut it down and make the neck more like a mock-turtleneck.  It ended up being pretty short (it'd been badly shrunken), but it will still make for a great long sweater over a pair of itty-bitty skinny jeans!

Then I crocheted a rose for the shoulder.  Adorable!

For the record, Thing 1 will be a great model one day.  He is not picky about what I put on him!

Update:  Here is a picture of the actual little lady the sweater was made for with her wearing it!  Doesn't she look darling.

Up-cycled Sweater Dress

So, like many crafters, I have developed an obsession with Pinterest.com.  I am so overwhelmed sometimes with good ideas that I'm finding myself working on multiple projects at once.

Last night I was cleaning out/re-organizing my bedroom closet and I came across a few cute sweaters that no longer fit.  Actually, they no longer fit for two reasons.  #1 I have gained weight (duh!) and #2 they've been dried (read: shrunken!).  I've been holding on to them because they are cute and I was holding out hope that if I lost enough weight, that they'd eventually fit again.  But at this point, I've decided to give up the ghost and just get rid of them.

But wait, I remember pinning something into my "If I had a little girl" board on pinterest where a woman does a tutorial on how to turn an old sweater into an a-line toddler dress.

Following the instructions (and using one of Thing 1 & Thing 2's 3T long sleeve shirts), I was able to make a super cute and soft sweater dress for one stylish little Lady Bug.

Thing 1 is about the same size as the Lady Bug, so I made him try it on for me.  He was happy to help.

Do you think he'll hate me for this one day?

I made a few mistakes along the way, but besides the arms being a tad short, I think it turned out great.  I'm ready to try making another one with my other sweater.  And it's not a cowl neck, so it should be easier.
